South Bay Energy Reviews: A Guide to Choosing a Space Heater
Whether you
plan to go out or stay indoors during winter, you need to keep warm. Winter
clothes can only do so much, and let’s be honest – wearing multiple layers of
clothing indoors isn’t very comfortable. A space heater is a good investment
with cold weather closing in. There are many different types and styles of
space heater, and choosing one could be overwhelming. Here are some tips for
choosing a space heater for your home.
1) How much energy does it consume? Most space heater manufacturers
claim that their products are energy efficient. However, not all space heaters
are made equal – their energy consumption could range from 750 to 1000 watts.
2) How large is the space you want to heat? Space heaters come in different
shapes and sizes. There are large heaters for the outdoors and large rooms,
desk heaters, and heaters just about nine inches tall – ideal for small spaces.
To compute for the ideal wattage for your room, multiply your room’s area in
square feet by 10. For example, for a 100-square foot room, get a 100-watt
space heater. Large rooms could also benefit from oscillating heaters, which
distribute warm air by rotating like a desk fan.
3) Where will you use it? If you plan to stay indoors, an
electric space heater would do the job. However, if you plan to go camping or
otherwise go to an indoor space without access to an electrical outlet, a
propane space heater might be the best option.
4) How safe is it to use? Most space heater manufacturers
incorporate a number of safety features into their products, such as surfaces
that are cool to the touch or auto shut-off that is activated when the unit is
tipped over or if the internal components reach a certain temperature.
